Time: Beginning 1st watch - Beginning 2nd watch

Sigrun and Bjarni are woken early by the cook of the 'Warboat' it is even to early for the servants to be up and around. He offers little more than a kick to your the end of your pallets to rouse you from your slumber. Your early wakening means no morning meal today as there has been nothing prepared for such early starters. A pitcher of water is provided for you wash away the sleep and tend some grooming before you are ushered out of the hall lest you disturb the other sleeping patrons.

With the hour still early Nolomar has yet to rise and the thran is still shrouded in the ealry morning darkness. The thran lies still in the early morning hours.

Arriving at the boat Bjarni and Sigrun wake the others and soon each of the companions has started their morning routines. With their morning routines complete the first light of Nolomar begins to light the eastern sky. Soon preparations are being made to ready the 'Farvie' for todays voyage.

Waking Alagared helps get the farvie read to leave with the tide, if needed he will help man the Farvie on the days travel. Algared ensures he thanks Borygg for refilling their water skins the previous night, and appologises that he had been so tired he had all but turned in before his return.

When given the opportunity Algared speaks with Zaoul asking where he studied and seeking some knowledge of the young man's background. "So friend, I gather you are student of lore where were you fortunate enough to study."

"Now that we're off the river, there's more room to maneuver and we should be able to make good time. We may have to tack, depending on the winds, so watch your skulls on the beam."

Sigrun turns to Kugald, "Whenever you're ready, captain."

Time: Mid 2nd watch

The pre dawn is cold with a slight mist doing little to reduce visibility. A wind blows from the south east this morning, however, the morning is cold and with only the light a lantern to light your boat the crew set about preparing for the days voyage. The two beacons marking the entrance into Bjan's cove can be seen through the morning mist.

By the light of the pre dawn, Sigrun orders the lines holding the boat to its mooring be removed and oars unshipped and the crew to rowing stations. Barak, Borygg, Algared and Zeoul man the oars and with a steady rythm propel the boat out into Bjan's cove, with Sigrun manning the steering she keeps a careful watch on the boats course, leaving Bjarni to keep an eye on the crew.

With the tide aiding the rowers to boat soon makes its way through the twin beacons of the harbour and out into the fjord itself.

Sigrun nods her head to herself and then orders the crew to put on sail and store the oars.

Once freed from rowing and when the sail is set, "Algared motions to the bait bucket, "We probably should toss those over the side, thought i wouldn't mind baiting a hook or two and seeing what we can catch. something fresh for the ships stores maybe nice. Either way the basket with bait will be gone and once the baskets cleaned and stacked away there'll be a little more space.

What do you think Sigrun would a line or two have a noticieable effoect upon our speed?" Algared listens to Sigrun's appraisal and then turns to Kugald, "Well Capt'n, shallwemerely toss this bait of run a couple of lines?"

Then dependant upon both Sigrun's advice and Kugalds decision either the bait basket is emptied and rinsed or a couple of lines are set before the remainder of the bait is emptied.

Time: End 3rd watch

Once clear of the cove and with the boat starting to take a more westerly course, Sigrun orders the crew to unfurl the sail and then after a moment or two while the crew prepares the sail, Sigrun orders half sail to be made.

"The fishing lines will do little to slow her down" Sigrun says "but I fear we may be travelling a little to fast to trawl for anything either". Algared nods his head and throws the contents of the bucket over the side.

Bjarni nods his head as the crew set to the task under his watchful eye. The sail billows to life as the wind catches it and the boat heaves forward as if being drawn by an invisible team of horses. The crew dress the sail so that it catches the best wind before the lines are made fast. Settling in the crew only make minor adjustments to the sail as the wind shifts about slightly.

It is not long before the 'Farvie' is ploughing through the swell heading in a north westerly direction with Sigrun at the helm. Her gaze constantly scanning her surroundings. The spray from the boats bow coats the crew in a fine salt water mist which soons soaks through the crews clothing. The boat rises and falls with the swell as it makes about 5kts through the water.

The weather remains fair with the wind continuing to blow from the south east. The day warms up and it is not long before the bowspray becomes a refreshing shower of cold water. The crew (except Sigrun) strip down to shirt sleeves to enjoy the warm spring day. The sun beats down upon the warband warming them after last nights cold sleep.

River traffic continues to ply its way along the coast and you see numerous knarrs making their journeys both east and west along the Leimenfjord. Other smaller vessels can be seen casting nets into the shallower water near the coastline. The morning is spent in close water and several areas of habitation can be seen on the southern bank most are small villages but there is one thran on the bank, its high watchtower catching your attention as it would easily see for many miles in both directions along the river. Sigrun informs you this is the thran of Eslov, she is not able to tell you much more as she says she has not been ashore there.

Towards the end of the watch the boat breaks out into more open water and Sigrun informs you that this area is the junction of the Leimenfjord, the Heizfjord and the Altenfjord. The 'Farvie' continues to plough through the swell with ease.

Time: Beginning 4th - Beginning 5th watch

The boat continues to rise and fall with the swell as it makes its way through the swell, the wind favours you as it still blows steadily from the south east allowing the sail to catch it easily and propel the boat forward.

The day remains warm with the warband going about their duties aboard the vessel dressed in little more than leggings and shirtsleeves.

Landmarks sail by as you make your way towards Pelyn. The islands of Penby and Wuna, along with Apun and Dalm bays. The southern coastline is well inhabited around Dalm bay, there are quite a number of small villages dotted along the bank but you are able to see two main thrans as you sail by - there names are unknown.

It is not long after the end of the 4th watch that the thran of Pelyn comes into view some distance away and to the north, Sigrun steers the boat a little to the north and brings them onto a course to reach Pelyn.

As Pelyn comes closer you can see the impressive Vathran sitting atop Brogar Island, an impressive fortification sitting atop 20-40 foot high cliffs. The island has a thin piece of land that connects it to the mainland, although Sigrun informs you that it will get bigger until low water and by high water will be under several feet of water and completely invisible.

Several vessels sit bobbing on the swell of the fjord at anchor. Sigrun informs you that there is no dock here and that ships needing to unload there cargo move to a position near the eastern side of the thran, then they have to wait until low water before they are able to be unloaded. They have to be unloaded by the next high water so that they can be refloated and room made for the next vessel.

It is just into the 5th watch when Sigrun orders the sail to be furled and the crew ready to cast an anchor out. Sigrun asks Bjarni to hoist the yellow pennant from the masthead which he does so. This is the signal to the boats in the harbour that there are crew aboard who need to go ashore.

In there own good time you see a small row boat leave the shore and head towards your boat. While waiting Sigrun informs you that it will cost a penny to go ashore. You can make the trip as often as you like for the day but the penny will only get you a calender days travel.

As the row boat nears the 'Farvie' an older man with a greying beard and balding head calls "Which of ya is wanting to goes ashore" it is apparent as the man calls to you that he is missing several teeth. Sigrun recognises the ferryman but is not able to recall his name.

Anchored off the shoreline you notice several knarrs of various sizes but what grabs your attention are the 5 warboats, 2 longboats and the 1 dragonship that are also anchored to the west of the thran.

All of these boats appear to only be manned by a few sailors each.

"It looks as thought with so many craft that the inns will be filled, still I would say who say that Jurri, Kugald and a suitable delegation would need to be among the number of the shore party. It would be valuable and likely wise to try to deliver the message to the king immediately, even if that means a quick wash or not, even though we will probably find we have to wait til morning as we have had to wait for the Daas pleasure. If we have to to wait to deliver the message then tonight we certainly ensure the travel is washed away, hair cleaned and combed and clothes or scrubbed and dried if need be. While I can little afford finery if I'll join the party if deemed worthwhile and certainly if a first cousin of a great clan head not presenting themselve would be seen as an insult. It is also possible we will also find shops availble here also. In which case I will join the shore party."

You may only end up spectating, but a chance to see the king is a rare thing and I would encourage you to come if you want."

Kugald changes into his best shirt. He leaves his armour in the boat (so as not to alarm anyone, this is a diplomatic mission after all). He straps on his sword as a symbol of his rank.

He clambers down into the row boat and looks back to see who else is coming.

[OoC: What is the weather like? What is it likely to be like this evening/night? How far are we off sunset?]

Post by GM The weather is still warm with a few white puffy clouds in the sky. The wind is still steady from the south east. The temperature looks to drop some with the coming of night but it does not feel as though it will be as cold as last night. But it should remain clear for the next watch or so.

There is perhaps a watch of daylight left including a quarter watch of sunlight after sunset

To Borygg (and anyone else staying behind) "If we are not going to go ashore, what are we eating tonight? We're not going to be able to cook any food. Is it just cheese, oatcakes and dried fruit? If so, Algared, it might be worth buying a loaf of bread."

'Unless we can build a small fire using some of the charcoal,on the bassalt for cooking then it would indeed seem to mean cold rations for the evening meal. Or we buy the hot food from the inn and have it sent across, alternatively we cook and send the caulron back while it is still warm. Of course we could all just have cold rations from the stores, washed down with some of the ale we also carry."

But since we cant draw our little cradft nearer the shore we had best drop our anchor I know I'd rather have one dropped for and aft to stop her swinging on the cable, but alas we have but one anchor." Algared says, and cannot help but feel justified in his purchase of the anchor and cable though he wishes he had been able to aquire a second..

Sigrun informs the warband that payment is only required for the boatman from the shore to the boat. He gifts the trip ashore to sailors, knowing that most will not be paid until they are ashore and of those that require a return trip back to the boat most will be in their cups and he stands to make a little extra from them for his troubles.

With group suitably attired, they board the small row boat. Shingle does not look at all perturbed by the increasing number of people boarding his small boat.

With barely any clearance between the waterline and the gunwales, Shingle pushes off from the 'Farvie' and begins to row his boat towards the shoreline. The rowboat bobs about in the swell as Shingle slowly rows.

Nearing the shoreline you notice that there are several boatman that work the lanes between the boats and the shore, nearing the shoreline still you find it strange that there are no docking facilities in the thran. Such a large thran with no dock. The nearest they have is the shipwrights slipway.

Sitting atop the slipway is a nearly completed warboat.

After some time and a few close calls the small boat bumps ashore. With a smile and nod of his head Shingle says "Be seein' youse!"
