[OoC: Sorry for my absense...I was on holiday with no access...]

this reply falls before we caught up with the refugees

Bryndis has been quite for most of the conversation, but will finally say "I have sworn a service to Cunate Daas, and cannot leave that service until I have fulfilled my obligations. If such obligations have been fulfilled, or I am otherwise released from them, then I will travel where the group goes, be it elsewhere in Menglana or across the waters to Harn."

Barak sincerely asks: "Remind me again Bryndis, what was it you swore to Cunate to undertake?"

To everyone (still before we catch the refugees): "It seems to me, from all what has been said, that our best bet is to convince Cunate that he has to leave Daaslund. If that fails we have to ask permission to leave ourselves."

In response to Barak's comments Algared says to the group, "It is not for us to pursuade Cunate, and if our thoughts were indeed considered noteworthy we would have been included in the council. We may find, on our return, that the decision has already been made for us..

In regards to any oaths we have made, it doesnt matter what anyone else feels the words spoken mean. If the oath-giver feels that the oath requires something who are we to claim that their oath is fulfilled, that is between the oathgiver and the grey slayer. However, I share Bryndis thoughts, I feel that I gave Cunate my oath... As Cunate is also my kinsman and my valhaker I further feel I cannot leave him to stand alone, unless he sends me, even if others do. I know from what you have spoken that some of you may feel that what I say is suicidal or that I have a death wish. Let me assure you, I do not desire to die, but I feel that to walk away in time of need when I still feel bound to my oath, would be, at least for me, dishonourable. Just as I feel merely leaving the refugees to walk alone without aid, even it it is only aid help to carry their load would also be dishonourable.

I am not saying anyone elses thoughts or actions would be dishonourable even were they to turn aside this moment and leave.. You have all shown your loyalty and honour to the Daas and your comrades, and have served Cunate with distinction and held to the Ljarl. The desire to see the the Raven's treated with honour is further testament to that, as is Bjarni's desire to see the woman Suri and her children safe.

Svardkell says he could not live in a land with a king such as the currant claimant to the throne. But Cunate has shown himself time and time again to be a man who holds to the Ljarl, that he is a man of honour. Living with him as my Valhaker would not be that arduous a task.

It is also said that Cunate and the Storzar stand alone, but the Daas at Myna are also kin and Clan Maar are known for their honour and for following the Ljarl, so I find it hard to believe we are truely alone. Mayhap the Daas needs to call on them for aid and support... I do not claim to know the answers I am not privy to the council of Cunate's Thrangaad. I imagine though, if any needed convincing that the Daas is not guilty of regicide and treason we stand as testment that he is innocent and may also be the ideal messengers to the Daas at Myna and to Clan Maar to state the case because we know that Cunate was awaiting the King to come, as he had promised, to his aid against Ibanvaal.

Once we have returned to Ygesdram having seen all the refugees safe we will find out the Daas decsision and if need we can make suggest we we may need call on Myna and Maar for aid or shelter... assuming that has not already been done."

[OoC: Still in the time warp] "I was not going to tell Bryndis how to think or adviser her on whether or not she has fulfilled her vow - that is a matter for her and Cunate. I merely wanted to know what it is she is committed to, to see how that may or may not fit with our plans."

"As for seeking aid from neighbouring Jarls, I assume that Cunate will have already done that and been refused, or at least aid has not been forthcomming."

"If you wish to fight on then that is your choice, but it won't be mine for much longer. Though I am not high in Cunate's councils, that does not mean that I do not have a right to speak. If you will not represent the feelings of this warband, whatever they end up being, I will - or at least I will try to. Thaldris may well listen to me a take a message. As a member of clan Daas, however minor a member, I am allowed to my view, that is that I believe he has to cut his losses because he is in a place where he can not win at the moment. He has to weigh up what is best for the clan and the whole of Daaslund and he may well disagree with me, but I will at least know that I did my best."

"I endeavour to make the feelings of the warband known, and I have not disputed the right of each of you to your view. If I truely desired to remove the ability to air your views and make informed decisions I would merely have kept the contents of the letter private. I will support Cunate as he tmakes decisions for the good of Daaslund and clan Daas as much as I can for the reasons I gave. I will ever seek meet and address the address the thoughts, needs and hopes of the members of this warband and try to ensure they are safe and hale... as such I will put forward our concerns of the band when we are agreed. I will certainly not try to enforce anyone to do what feel is futile or wrongAnd or prevent prevent them doing what is right.

As I look about the land, the losses sustained by the Daas and Storzar are ever evident, the fields remain fallow (and even some of the fishing vessels seems to remain drawn up on the beach and) Edit by GM This information would be not known to you as this conversation takes place prior to your meeting up with the refugees so it seems that unless aid is forthcoming then this phase of the war is almost over. Remember that while we slept the Daas had remained in conference, working for the good of clan Daas and Daaslund, having recieved the same news I did. Until he recieved that news, plans were made based on the king's promise to raise a force to come to our aid. Last night Cunate learnt, as I did, that the king was murdered and one of his sons have exiled or murdered his brothers to claim the throne and accuses the Daas of regicide. As such It is just as important to learn the what the plans he has made.

You will recall the Daas initally planned to move to Myna but my father, a member of the Thangaard, betrayed a confidence spoken out of concern for my mother and sister. He spread rumours above and beyond what he was told merely to cause panic so he could line his pockets with silver and increase the price or stores...his rumours you will recall Barak, were such that even Kugald believed and acted upon them. Thus I chose not to speak of the letters contents to you until I could do so when we were alone and refugees from a myriad clans could listen in. I would have equally been in my right to say nothing to you and would have if it was my desire to try force or mislead, rather it was out of my desire to be able address your feelings and desires and thoughts that you were told.

So please do not accuse me, cousin, of not seeking to represent the thoughts and concerns of this warband's members or of trying to force you to take a particular action.

I would say you are agreed Barak, you may feel that the safty of the refugees is ensured, but during the winter the wolves were more fierce than they have been form many an age and the fields are fallow and men seem more scarce. Wild beasts may be more prevalent. We do not know where the refugees are headed except further along this trail.

Return to Ygesdram, I intend to continue to ensure the refugees indeed arrive safe. There was only one man with the group, if they are indeed as you suppose about to split up then some will be lacking any men to accompany them. Bryndis and Svardkell I would appreciate your company but the choice is yours.

I have not accused you of anything Algared. I have spoken, in general terms, of the rights of the members of clan Daas to be heard. I do not normally stress my family ties, but in this case, the decisions to be made by Cunate will impact on all of clan Daas and all of Daaslund."

I think, since we've caught up with the refugees, we can ask them if any want escort to their destinations. Just because one or two did not want escort, they may not have spoken for the entire group. As we are all here, and they are all here, it is easy to ask their wishes. If any want escort, I will escort. If none desire escort, then I will return to Ygresdram.

whereever the conversation about turning back or escorting happened (in the timewarp or after catching the refugees), Bryndis would not let Algared travel alone... so if he will continue and it is only she and Algared who catch up with the refugees, so be it. Having caught up with them, the question of whether any want escort still stands.

To force any to accept escort and help would be to impose upon them the very thing I at least Ive sought to fight against. If none desire help we can return to Ygesdram by the quickest road." Algared is greatful for Bryndis and ponders her insight and wonders if it is merely the product of a woman's perpective, either way he is sure her Ljarl is her motive, as such her honour at least in his eyes grows.
Once the refugees are caught up with and their destinations learnt Algared will add to the inquiry...

"... it was my intention to assist you all to reach your destination if desired."

If they not not desire any help then he will return to Ygesdram with Bryndis and whoever still remains.

Following along behind the refugee group your warband moves along the sodden trail discussing what lays in store for Ygesdram, Cunate Daas and the warband.

Finally catching up to the refugees near a small fishing thran Algared offers to escort those that require an escort to their destination.

"I ask because we intended to escort and help all reach their destinations safely. In my error, I had failed to previously ask. It is a lonely road and harder still without men to lesson the burden." Algared answers.

"if I recall correctly there is a need to split? And what of you friend where do do head?".

A woman in the group shepherding a small child says with some concern in her voice "Are the roads unsafe to be travelling on?" the woman has no sooner finished her question than the others become unsettled by this news.

The stranger among them attempts to calm them down looking at Algared with a scowl "No the roads are safe, we have come so far without harm, do not listen to this fool" he says still trying to calm down the women and children.

Finally after convincing the group that all is safe the stranger staring straight at Algared says with a stern voice "We would be best without you!"

*OOC* Sorry, just wanted to make sure I got this in before we left the refugees.

GM wrote:Finally after convincing the group that all is safe the stranger staring straight at Algared says with a stern voice "We would be best without you!"

Svardkell walks up the man and stares him down. "You'd be good to watch your manners to your betters who would stick their necks out and watch your worthless hide. Go straight home as these roads *CAN* become dangerous given the right circumstances." At that he gives a nod to Algared and walks away from the refugees.

Post by GM The stranger looks familiar to you as you get closer, you do not know his name but you place his face as one of the defenders of Abderheim. Then stepping back he says in a louder voice "I do not fear the fight or death itself, now let us be on our way and out of this rain" he says looking skyward "or if it is a fight you seek then lets be done!" with that he unslings his shield "it is your move now Carrion!"

"Enough!" Algared says sternly and with authority, "There will be no fighting nor will there be any more ill chosen words any one that bring previous deeds of honour and valour down to the mud." To the stranger Algared says, "I admire your efforts to appease the women and children. My offer, as I said was for assistance for I had noticed there were so few men with you, and you are one man, and you can only accompany a single group. You yourself have just said you are splitting up." Turning slightly to include the women Algared continues, "I know that you have all lost much during the fighting at Abderhiem. My concern was to ensure you and the little ones were not overly burdened. The roads are safe but even littleones tire of walking in the rains and many hands make light work and can ease a burden. I would not see those who have suffered much walk alone if I could lighten their load. I am sorry if I caused you even greater concern. If you desire no help with your loads, so be it. As your hearty defender says it is raining and I'm sure we all desire to be out of this rain and in some shelter."

Algared with shield and weapons remaining slung deliberately places himself between the glaring stares of the two men and rests a calming hand on each man's shoulder.

Barak will step up to support Algared. He dosn't ready any weapons/shields (though he is already carrying his spear, he is holding it in the carrying position, which is the wrong way up to use it as a weapon).

Trying to keep his voice light-hearted and low (so as not to carry), Barak says: "Having a brawl here in these circumstances will tarnish the honour of you both. We return to Ygresdram. Svardkell you are coming with us. You," he says indicating the other man "would be best to be on your way before something happens here that will really scare the kids." with a grin he adds "Watching two men having a mud wrestle is a sight they can do without today."
