As older brothers go, Orn was what you would expect - he picked on Bryndis when it suited him, and stood up for her when she needed it. The consummate prankster, Bryndis is concerned that one day all his "fun" will catch up to him... and she won't be there to watch his back.

Growing up, Bryndis was often forced to tag along with her older brother, Orn. As one of Orn's best friends was the son of Kantha, Bryndis often found herself in the weaponcrafters shop. Not interested in the boys pranks, Bryndis spent many a long hour talking to Kantha about his craft and weapons.

Though Raynolr, the thran bully, often picked on Bryndis, she worked hard to keep her temper in check. Until the day she heard him besmirch her father's good name. Letting her anger overtake her, Bryndis called Raynolr out... demanding that he retract his comments, or defend them. Thinking she would be an easy fight, thus only humiliating her further, he accepts the challenge. The Valhakar allowed the fight to proceed, but only to first blood... which surprising to Raynolr was drawn by Bryndis.

Despite being surrounded by it her whole life, military training was not quite what Bryndis expected. Bjarri had the confidence in Bryndis that she sometimes lacked in herself, and pushed her to excel at every task.

If only Bryndis had been born under a more genteel sunsign, perhaps she would have a more genteel nature. As it is, being born under Angberelius, no one was surprise when she showed a tendency towards conflict and destruction. It wasn’t that she was unlucky or even clumsy… just that she was most likely to make the worst of a situation. It’s easy to fall out of favor with your family when the anticipated brideprice diminishes as the ill-tempered girlchild grows.

After a difficult childhood, where she just couldn’t seem to do anything right, it was no surprise to anyone when Bryndis called out Raynolr, the thran bully. Perhaps he thought she’d be an easy fight when he accepted. Perhaps he thought he’d make her more the fool, and prove his disparaging remarks all the more true. Unfortunately for Raynolr, he was wrong. The Valhakar allowed the contest, though directed that it would end at first blood. Spurred by a natural affinity and just anger, Bryndis drew that first blood… earning herself the right to train as shieldmaiden. If she didn’t hate Raynolr so much, she might have cause to thank him, for allowing her the opportunity to find her calling…her balance.

Her new standing did nothing to improve her family’s attitude toward her, but Bryndis didn’t care. She poured all her energy, all her hopes and dreams into succeeding…into being the best shieldmaiden Marby had ever seen. And it was hard. There were many times when Bryndis herself thought to give in… give up… only to be spurred on by her friend Bjarni. When her training was complete, Bryndis was often sent on escort missions; to watch after a young Sarajin priest.

Bryndis has known Meldun almost her entire life. She remembers him as a youth, small and weak-seeming, getting into trouble with her brother. But by the time he had completed his training, she almost didn’t recognize him. Clearly, being a priest of Sarajin suits Meldun well. As acting as his escort and bodyguard suits her well.

On one such journey, Meldun and Bryndis heard the sounds of combat in the distance. Aching for a chance to work her muscles, Bryndis ran towards the sounds…only to find a bear of a man…surrounded and grossly outnumbered by gargun. He seemed to be holding his own, but soon the numbers would overwhelm him…assuming Bryndis and Meldun allowed that. With three, the tide soon turned, and the gargun were routed.

Now the three of them travel together.
